Bins for new residents

Dorset Council charges for containers provided to new properties (newly built, redeveloped or new council tax registered properties). This was introduced in June 2017.

An administration and delivery charge of £73 is payable for a full set of bins for any newly built, developed or new council tax registered properties that doesn’t currently have them. These containers will remain the property of Dorset Council at all times and should not be removed from the premises under any circumstances.

If you are moving or have moved into a new build property and don't appear to have any bins, we recommend checking with the developer/agent that they have not already been paid for and arranged to be delivered. If the property developer has not paid for the supply of containers to your home, you will be required to pay.

Guidance for developers on the provision of bins

If you are a developer and would like to know more about the household waste collections provided by Dorset Council, or wish to order bins for a new development, you will need to contact us directly.

The guidance for developers will assist at the early stages of your development. New development sites may require a survey before the quantity and size of containers are agreed upon. This will enable Dorset Council to inspect the site for space and access requirements in order to provide the most suitable containers.

Guidance on provision for the safe and efficient storage and collection of waste, and to maximise the potential for recycling, can be provided upon request.
