Shaping Dorset’s places. Backed by strategy. Driven by impact.

Dorset Council is at a defining moment in how it manages land and property. Through our Strategic Asset Management Plan 2024–2030, we are moving away from traditional, reactive estates management towards a proactive, place-shaping approach where assets are used deliberately to support services, strengthen communities and unlock long-term public value.

Our Assets & Property service sits at the heart of this ambition. With one of the South West’s largest and most diverse public estates, ranging from town-centre buildings and commercial portfolios to rural land, community assets and operational infrastructure, the decisions made here directly shape Dorset’s future.

Why Assets & Property at Dorset Council?

This is not about maintaining the status quo. Our teams are leading a live programme of asset reviews, disposals, transfers and reinvestment, supported by clear political backing, strong governance and a defined pipeline. Asset decisions here influence regeneration, affordable housing, community ownership, climate outcomes and service delivery across the county.

You will work in an environment that values professional judgement, evidence-based decision making and innovation. Whether your focus is strategy, surveying, commercial management, FM or asset data, your work will be visible, valued and connected to real outcomes.

Why Dorset?

Dorset is one of England's most distinctive places to live and work. Two Areas of Outstanding Natural Beauty, 95 miles of coastline, market towns, villages and a county that consistently ranks among the best in the UK for quality of life, it's the kind of place people plan to move to, not away from.

If you're based elsewhere and this role has caught your attention, we'd encourage you to make the move. We offer a generous relocation package to help you get settled, with up to £8,000 in HMRC-eligible support that's free of tax.

Dorset Council's offices are spread across the county, with a strong base in Dorchester a walkable county town with good transport links, independent shops and easy access to the coast and countryside. Hybrid working means you won't be in the office every day, but when you are, you'll be somewhere worth the commute.

Why now

With Cabinet-approved programmes in place, a renewed focus on asset intelligence and digital systems, and a council-wide commitment to smarter use of land and buildings, this is a rare opportunity to join at a point of genuine momentum. We are investing in how we understand our estate, how we prioritise assets and how we turn data into confident decisions.

Building careers across Assets & Property

This campaign brings together a range of roles across Assets & Property, from operational and commercial management through to strategic surveying and asset intelligence. While roles differ in focus and seniority, they share a common purpose: using Dorset’s assets in a more joined-up, innovative and impactful way.

Whether you are leading strategy, managing portfolios, maintaining operational assets or improving the systems and data that underpin decisions, you will be part of a single, collaborative service shaping Dorset’s places.

Who we are looking for

We are looking for professionals who want more than a purely technical role. People who want to see work through end to end, influence decisions, and understand how assets connect to communities, services and long-term outcomes. You will be curious, commercially aware, and comfortable working across disciplines in a fast-moving environment.

Why Dorset Council?

At Dorset Council, it's not just about the work we do, it's about how we do it. Hear directly from our employees about what makes Dorset Council special in this short video.
