The terms and conditions for using a purple business waste sack are as follows:

  • purple waste sacks are provided for general waste only
  • only items declared on your Duty of Care waste transfer note should be placed in your purple waste sacks
  • purple waste sacks should be tied and presented at your collection point by 6am on the day of collection unless otherwise agreed
  • the maximum weight per purple waste sack is 10kg
  • your account will remain active and you will be issued a duty of care, providing you purchase at least one roll of purple business waste sacks each year
  • Dorset Waste Services (DWS) will not remove the waste if:
    • it differs from that described in the Duty of Care document
    • it is burning, smouldering, or reacting
    • its removal from the premises could be dangerous to DWS and its employees, agents, or the public
    • the purple waste sack is overfilled or overweight
    • the purple waste sack contains any of the items listed in the point below
  • you must not place any of the following items in the sack:
    • asbestos or any materials known to produce asbestos
    • any liquid or paint
    • all forms of batteries
    • tyres
    • gas cylinders/bottles
    • animals or animal by-products (i.e raw meat/fish)
    • televisions and/or computer monitors, electrical equipment. Under the WEEE Directive (Waste, Electrical and Electronic Equipment) electrical products must not be disposed of in either refuse or recycling containers. These must be collected by a specialist collection company
    • fluorescent tubes
    • car parts, including oil and oily rags
    • clinical waste (i.e sharps and syringes)
    • chemicals and pesticides
    • bulky household items (including furniture)
    • builders rubble (including soil, bricks, large pieces of wood, bathroom suites and building waste)
    • plasterboard
    • oils and fats (including solid and compacted fats)
    • large lengths of rope, wrap, cable, ties or similar (these may become entangled in sorting machinery)
    • mattresses
  • DWS reserve the right to change the collection frequency/time for operational efficiency provided that reasonable notice is given
  • DWS have a zero-tolerance approach to any incidents of violence, aggression, or verbal abuse towards our staff. Any incidents reported by DWS staff will result in the immediate termination of the service and no refunds will be provided for any purple waste sacks purchased

Data Protection Notice

The information you provide will be used by Dorset Council in the provision of services to you. It will not be used for any other purpose unless you have requested information about other services.
