Dorchester Article 4 Direction

The Dorchester Article 4 Direction is to prevent loss of further features which contribute to the character of the Dorchester Conservation Area.

The Article 4 Direction is limited to any gate, fence, wall or other means of enclosure adjacent to a highway or open space and covers properties in a number of areas of the town. This means that for any future work, it may now be necessary to apply for planning permission.

The Direction started on 10 June 2020 when the Council gave notice of the Article 4 Direction by way of advertisement in the Dorset Echo and by a number of site notices.

Conservation areas - West Dorset

Following public consultation and within six months of the start date, the council will decide whether to confirm the Article 4 Direction. Information on the decision will be available on the council’s website at
