When you need a TTRO or TTRN
A Temporary Traffic Regulation Order (TTRO) or Temporary Traffic Regulation Notice (TTRN) temporarily limits or changes vehicular regulations on the highway.
TTRO
We use TTROs for restrictions with a duration of 6 consecutive calendar days or more, up to a maximum period of 18 months.
TTRN
We use TTRNs for:
- restrictions with a duration of no more than 5 consecutive calendar days
- restrictions for genuine emergency situations being carried out with immediate notice, for a duration of 21 consecutive calendar days, with a further extension for a maximum duration of 21 consecutive calendar days if needed
Public events on the highway
You need to follow a different process if you need to introduce restrictions for an event on the highway.
Close a private road
If you need to close a private or unadopted road, contact the landowner to get their permission.
Close a pavement
If you need to close a pavement (footway and cycleway) running adjacent to a road you can make a road space booking.
