Hampreston - Ham Lane cycleway

We are building a shared use footway/cycleway from Hampreston Cross to Canford Bottom Roundabout.

The new path will provide a safe route for pedestrians and cyclists between Hampreston, Longham and Canford Bottom.

The scheme is part of an emerging network of cycle facilities in the south east Dorset area aimed at making trips by bike more accessible to more people, by providing safe and attractive routes.

It will improve access to Ferndown, Uddens Industrial Estate, local schools and other amenities, and complete the link from Longham to the Castleman Trailway.

Local members and councillors, including Ferndown Town Council as well as Dorset Police and local businesses have been consulted on the design of the cycleway.

Building the cycleway

Construction work is planned to start in January 2019 and will last for around 22 weeks.

Before this, a hedge along Ham Lane will be translocated in November/December 2018. Moving the hedgerow will provide space in the verge needed for the new cycleway/footway.

Cost and funding

The total estimated cost of the above scheme is £800,000. The scheme is funded by the Local Transport Plan and £300,000 from developer contributions.

This is an increase on the original scheme estimate due to changes in scope and construction costs.
