Proposals to dispose of the following parcels of land:

  2. Land at Victoria Grove, Bridport comprising 0.082 hectares (0.203 acres) of open space
  3. Land at Priory Lane, Bridport comprising 0.52 hectares (1.28 acres) of open space
  4. Land at Riverside Court, Bridport comprising an area of 0.0058 hectares (0.014 acres) together with land adjacent to Vernon’s Court, Bridport comprising an area of 0.041 hectares (0.102 acres)

  6. Land of former railway line from West Bay northwards comprising 1.70 hectares (4.21 acres) of open space

About this Notification

1) Introduction

The Council is intending to transfer all of the following parcels of open space whether by freehold sale or grant of long leases as indicated below. At a meeting of the Strategy Committee on 13 December 2018 the District Council agreed to transfer all of the land to Bridport Town Council. View the Transfer of Services and Assets Report

This process complies with the requirements of the Local Government Act 1972, Section123 (2A) that require councils to advertise their intentions to dispose of land in use as open space prior to any disposal.

The proposals affect the following land:

a) Land at Harbour Green, West Bay, Bridport comprising 0.26 hectares (0.64 acres) of open space

The Council will transfer the land area outlined in red on the plan for identification purposes only. See the Harbour Green plan.

The land will be leased to the Town Council for a term of 99 years and it will be used to manage future usage and revenue generating opportunities. The land does not include any existing off street or on street parking and will be leased subject to all established rights affecting the land.

b) Land at Victoria Grove, Bridport comprising 0.082 hectares (0.203 acres) of open space

The Council will transfer the land area outlined in red on the plan for identification purposes only. See the land at Victoria Grove plan.

The freehold interest in the land will be transferred to the Town Council. 

c) Land at Priory Lane, Bridport comprising 0.52 hectares (1.28 acres) of open space

The Council will transfer the land area outlined in red on the plan for identification purposes only. See the land at Priory Lane plan.

The land comprises an area of allotments and community orchard currently leased to the Town Council. A new 99 year lease will be granted to the Town Council and it will be used to manage future usage.

d) Land at Riverside Court, Bridport comprising  an area of 0.0058 hectares (0.014 acres) together with land adjacent to Vernon’s Court, Bridport comprising an area of 0.041 hectares (0.102 acres)

The Council will transfer the two land parcels outlined in red on the plan for identification purposes only. See the land at Riverside Court plan.

The freehold interests in the two parcels of land will be transferred to the Town Council. 

e) Land adjoining West Bay Car Park comprising 0.257 hectares (0.635 acres) of open space

The Council will transfer the land area outlined in red on the plan for identification purposes only. See the land adjoining West Bay Car Park plan.

The land includes the existing Children’s Play Area that is already leased to the Town Council. A new 99 year lease will be granted to the Town Council and it will be used to manage future usage.

f) Land of former railway line from West Bay northwards comprising 1.70 hectares (4.21 acres) of open space

The Council will transfer the land area outlined in red on the plan for identification purposes only.

The freehold interest in the land will be transferred to the Town Council.

2) The Notification Process

The Council has advertised its intention to dispose of the land by placing advertisements in the Dorset Echo in accordance with s.123 (2A) of the Local Government Act 1972 and by following this procedure the council is free to dispose of the land.

The Council therefore invites representations in respect of the proposals to dispose of these areas of open space.

The Council has a duty to consider any representations received.

Anyone wishing to object to the intended disposal should submit their objection in writing to the Legal Services Manager, (Principal Commercial Property Lawyer), at the Council Offices, South Walks House, South Walks Road, Dorchester, Dorset, DT1 1UZ marked for the attention of Miss M Dolley (mdolley@dorset.gov.uk). 

Any objections are to be received no later than Noon Monday 25 March 2019.
