Local Plan Review Consultation - West Dorset, Weymouth & Portland

Currently there are no consultations underway covering the former West Dorset, Weymouth & Portland Local Plan area.

Recent consultations on the West Dorset, Weymouth & Portland Joint Local Plan Review:

Dorset Council cabinet agreed on 25 June 2019 to stop progressing work on the West Dorset, Weymouth & Portland joint Local Plan Review.  Instead, the council has begun work on a new Dorset-wide Local Plan.  Where possible, information and evidence gathered as part of the review of the local plan (see below) will be used to inform the new Dorset Local Plan.

Preferred Options Consultation

We consulted on Preferred Options for the review of the Local Plan between 13 August and 15 October 2018. This consultation formed part of the regulation 18 consultation. Responses received during this period have now been processed and a summary of the responses made by organisations and individuals to the consultation has been produced.

Chapter summaries

Comments as submitted to the consultation can be viewed in full using our consultation response search. Comments are searchable by chapter and by individual/organisation. You can view responses made on the Sustainability Appraisal that supported the Preferred Options consultation.

The documents are still available to view online. The Preferred Options document (and separate policies map amendments) sets out the overarching vision, strategic priorities, strategic approach and draft policies for the plan area. The document sets out a preferred approach to meet development needs. It is also proposes to revise some other policies in response to changes in national policy and legislation.

The Preferred Options consultation ran from 13 August 2018 to 15 October 2018. During this period, drop in events were held at the following locations:

  • Sherborne, Digby Memorial Hall - Wednesday, 29 August 10am to 7pm
  • Portland, St Georges Centre - Thursday, 30 August 10am to 7pm
  • Dorchester, South Walks House - Friday, 31 August 10am to 7pm
  • Crossways, Village Hall - Tuesday, 4 September 10am to 7pm
  • Charminster, Village Hall - Thursday, 6 September 10am to 7pm
  • Beaminster, Town Hall - Friday, 7 September 10am to 7pm
  • Lyme Regis, Woodmead Hall - Monday, 10 September 10am to 7pm
  • Weymouth, Redlands Sport Centre - Wednesday, 12 September 10am to 7pm
  • Bridport, Leisure Centre - Thursday, 13 September 10am to 7pm
  • Chickerell, Willowbed Hall - Friday, 14 September 10am to 7pm

To support the Preferred Options consultation document, a sustainability appraisal has been produced which assesses the potential environmental, social and economic impacts associated with the draft policies, evaluates their overall performance in terms of sustainability, and suggests ways to reduce the adverse effects and maximise the beneficial effects of these policies. The reasons for selecting the Preferred Options, given the alternatives considered at the Issues and Options stage, are also provided in this report.
