Ancient monuments in East Dorset

In East Dorset there are currently 145 entries in the list of scheduled monuments for Dorset.

Works that affect these nationally recognised sites require Scheduled Monument Consent, which are determined by the Secretary of State (DCMS). Applications are sent via Dorset county council's Archaeologist who administers the county sites and monuments record, and who co-ordinates all archaeological activity in the county. The district council is a member of the Dorset Archaeological Committee, which too is active in sponsoring research, preservation works and publications.
