Local Planning Policy - North Dorset
The local plan for North Dorset consists of the North Dorset Local Plan Part 1 (adopted 2016), as well as policies retained from the District-Wide Local Plan (adopted 2003). Communities can also produce neighbourhood plans to provide more detail for their area. The adopted local plans and 'made' neighbourhood plans form the 'development plan' for North Dorset. All planning decisions must be made in accordance with the development plan unless 'material considerations' indicate otherwise.
Motcombe Neighbourhood Plan
The referendum relating to the Motcombe Neighbourhood Plan took place on 7 November 2019. The majority (79.8%) voted for Dorset Council to use the neighbourhood plan to help decide planning applications in the parish of Motcombe. As a result, the plan now forms part of the development plan for the Motcombe parish area. As a final step, Dorset Council's Cabinet will decide on 10 December 2019 whether to formally 'make' the neighbourhood plan.
Blandford + Neighbourhood Plan 2011 - 2033

Brownfield Land Register
The Brownfield Land Register for North Dorset was last updated in December 2018.
Brownfield land registers are intended to provide up to date and consistent information on brownfield sites that local authorities consider to be appropriate for residential led development. Registers will be in two parts. Part 1 will comprise all brownfield sites appropriate for residential development and Part 2 those sites granted permission in principle. Registers should be published locally as open data and will provide transparent information about suitable and available sites.
The North Dorset Brownfield Land Register is available for download in a machine readable CSV file and a human readable PDF document:
Community Infrastructure Levy - update
We submitted our Draft Charging Schedule for examination in October. The submitted documents and other information can be found on the North Dorset Community Infrastructure Levy page.
We have now received the examiner's report in which the Examiner concludes that our charging schedule is an appropriate basis on which we can introduce the Community Infrastructure Levy.
Following the publication of the Government's Housing White Paper and the Government commissioned Community Infrastructure Levy Review the Council is reviewing whether to adopt its CIL Charging Schedule. In the interim, Section 106 agreements will continue to be used in order to make acceptable development which would otherwise be unacceptable in planning terms.
The North Dorset Local Plan
The North Dorset Local Plan sets out our approach to managing planning development in the district.
North Dorset Local Plan Review - Issues and Options Consultation
We are embarking on producing a new Local Plan for the District, which will replace both the North Dorset District-Wide Local Plan (1st Revision) (adopted in January 2003) and the North Dorset Local Plan Part 1 (adopted in January 2016).
As part of this process we consulted on an Issues and Options Document from the 27 November 2017 to 22 January 2018. We are now processing the responses that were received during this period and will issue a consultation report in due course.
