We're taking a break
Due to the Coronavirus outbreak, ‘Inspired’ sessions cannot happen at the moment. However, we look forward to re-starting sessions when there is a safe way to do so. In the meantime, please get in touch to let us know you are interested and we will contact you when we plan to meet up again.
Come and be inspired!
Fascinated by Dorset’s past? Looking for great activities in a small, sociable group? Let our records inspire you to write, make and create at Dorset History Centre!
In our monthly group we enjoy pictures, maps, documents or recordings and learn something new about our beautiful county and local artists.
In a small group we work with speech, painting, writing, music, photography and crafts. Sometimes we are joined by local crafts people, and sometimes group members share a traditional skill. We are always keen to learn something new about Dorset’s heritage and enjoy discussing the stories which come out of our 1,000 years of records. Participants have told us how much they enjoy the unusual activities and learning at the History Centre, as well as the friendly atmosphere.
The group is open to anyone who would like to take part including carers; those affected by dementia; those with a mobility, sensory or learning difficulty or anyone who would just enjoy the company and stimulation. It’s all about relaxing, meeting new people and having fun. This is an indoor activity, in a building with good access.
The group is relaxed. There is no need to make any payments in advance. The charge is £5 per session, with no charge for carers accompanying somebody to a session. This payment includes refreshments and any materials we use in the session.
Our Community Engagement Officer, Maria, leads the sessions and is available to chat with if you would like to find out more or book a place. We would like to make you comfortable, so please let us know about any extra challenges you face, and how we can help you access the sessions.
