Positive Behaviour Support is a person-centred approach to supporting people who display or are at risk of displaying behaviours which challenge. The aim of this course is to provide delegates with an understanding of the principles of the approach and the tools that are available to support best practice in this area. A strengths-based approach will be taken and promoted throughout the training.

The Dorset Council People - Adults pricing policy changed from 1st April 2020 as follows:

  • full day course - £50 per attendee
  • half day course - £40 per attendee

Please be aware that these costs will also be incurred for attendees who are classified as a ‘late cancellation’ - cancels their place within 1 week of the course date - or a ‘no show’ on the day of the course.

Learning outcomes

By the end of the course participants should be able to:

  • understand the purpose of Positive Behaviour Support
  • understand how the care and support environment impacts behaviour
  • understand the importance of having a functional, contextual and skills-based assessment of an individual
  • understand how to develop and implement a Behaviour Support Plan; evaluate intervention effects and on-going monitoring
  • have increased confidence in using Positive Behaviour Support tools
  • have a range of practical Positive Behaviour Support Plan tools to use
  • to have looked at case studies that have implemented a Positive Behaviour Support approach. At least one case study must be based on a person with a learning disability and one case study of a person with dementia.
