Dorset Youth Creative Ensemble at Bryanston School (also known as the Bryanston School Residential)

Dorset Music Service invite you to apply to join the Dorset Youth Creative Ensemble at the stunning Bryanston School.

This 5 day residency will be led by conductor and composer Patrick Bailey and a team of first class musicians who will further your skills, understanding and appreciation of music of all styles:

  • jazz
  • classical
  • folk
  • pop
  • rock

The week will culminate in a final night concert in the magnificent Tom Weare concert hall which is open to an invited audience of family and friends. 

Throughout the 5 days there'll be many opportunities to practice improvisation, composition and performance. Working in a relaxed and friendly atmosphere, the combination of the course, tutors and facilities make for a highly enjoyable and worthwhile musical experience. 

Who can attend

Young musicians between the ages of 12 and 21 who play at Grade 4 or above are welcome to attend. 

This residential course will provide a concentrated learning experience for players of varied levels of skill and experience.

Monday 27 July 2020 to Friday 31 July 2020.

Cost of the Dorset Youth Creative Ensemble 2020

The week costs £320. A payment plan is available to spread the cost over the year.

Students can  apply to the Richard Ely Trustfor financial support.

There are limited places for this residential. Applications are on a first come, first served basis.

How you will be taught

As a member you'll experience:

  • small and large group workshops
  • instrumental workshops
  • brainstorming sessions in theory, rhythm and improvisation
  • master classes
  • student-led groups in rehearsals and performance
  • a final evening concert

All of this takes place in state of the art, purpose built, practice, performance and recording facilities in the impressive music department at Bryanston School.

Bring:

  • your swimming kit
  • tennis rackets
  • skateboards
  • ninja scooters
  • a good book

You'll have free time on some afternoons and evenings so you can make use of the facilities at Bryanston School, including:

  • a skate park
  • a swimming pool
  • 40 tennis courts
  • badminton courts 
  • squash courts
  • acres of beautiful grounds

Who'll be teaching you

These are the people who'll teach you:

  • Patrick Bailey, conductor and composer
  • Dianne Ely, Head of Strings at  Dorset Music Service
  • John Randall, Head of Brass at Dorset Music Service
  • Pete Whitmarsh, Head of Percussion at Dorset Music Service

Dorset Music Service staff will also provide pastoral care. 

They all:

  • are DBS checked
  • are first aid trained 
  • have years of experience working with young musicians

Facilities and accommodation

The residency package includes accommodation at Bryanston School in a purpose built, self-contained boarding house which will be for the sole use of our group for the week. There's a range of accommodation and we're committed to providing a supportive environment for all our participants. Let us know in your application if you have any disabilities, access needs or a medical condition. 

Breakfast, lunch and dinner are included in the package. There are also a cafe and shop on site so bring some money in case you want to buy snacks.
