Dorset Youth Chamber Orchestra

The Dorset Youth Chamber Orchestra is for Dorset's advanced young musicians.

The Chamber Orchestra was formed 2 years ago to allow young musicians to play together in a small group where everyone is a soloist.

Reasons to join the Chamber Orchestra

Playing with the chamber orchestra gives players the chance to:

  • receive coaching from working orchestral musicians
  • perform new/exciting orchestral music
  • rehearse in a realistic professional environment
  • meet and play with other talented young musicians

Conductor - Will Goodchild

As orchestrator and conductor, William has worked with the BBC Concert Orchestra and Royal Philharmonic Orchestra. He is conductor and Musical Director of Bristol Symphony Orchestra and Guest Conductor of Bristol Ensemble. He has undertaken numerous projects for the BBC with a variety of composers.

William is a Senior Associate on the Composition for Film and Television MA at Bristol University. He also gives seminars on Music for Film for organisations such as Wildscreen International Film Festival, City University and Music Industry Education.

William composes and produces music for film, television and concert performance and has scored over seventy films for the major broadcasters including the BBC, Channel 4, Channel 5, PBS, National Geographic International, Discovery International and Animal Planet.

Playing standard and audition requirements

Entry into the chamber orchestra is by audition. The audition will allow us to meet you, hear you play a piece you've prepared in advance, give you some sight reading to try, and decide whereabouts in the orchestra to seat you. The main auditions will take place at the end of the Summer term, with extra auditions taking place termly (giving students the chance to join the orchestra mid-season).

The minimum standard for applicants is Grade 6 ABRSM/Trinity. (If students haven't done the exam but believe they are at/beyond this level, we can ask their teacher to confirm this. If this is the case please supply contact details for the teacher).
