Nomination papers may be obtained from the offices of the Returning Officer, South Walks House, South Walks Road, Dorchester, Dorset, DT1 1UZ during the times stated below or you can download a nomination pack.
Nomination papers must be delivered to the Returning Officer at South Walks House, South Walks Road, Dorchester, DT1 1UZ between 8.30am and 4.30pm on any working date from the date of publication of the above notice of election (excluding bank holidays) but no later than 4pm on Friday 20 September 2019.

|What is the deadline to register to vote for this election?

|Can I register to vote online?
||Yes – there is an online service that enables electors to register. You will need to provide specific information including current and previous address, national insurance number, date of birth and nationality - visit www.gov.uk/register-to-vote. Please note: to be able to vote in the Bourton Parish Council election on 17 October 2019 you need to register before the deadline (Tuesday 1 October 2019 - midnight).
|Why do I need to register to vote?
||You need to be on the electoral register to vote in all UK elections and referendums. You are not automatically registered even if you pay council tax.
If you receive a request for your registration information then you are legally obliged to respond. If you do not respond you could face a fine of up to £1,000.
It is an offence to knowingly give false information and you could face a fine of up to £5,000 and/or up to six months in prison. If you do not make an application for registration when required to do so, you could face a fine of £80.
Some people also register to vote because they want to apply for credit. This is because credit reference agencies use the register to confirm where someone lives when they apply for credit in order to counteract fraud.
|How do I know if I am registered for a postal or proxy vote?
||If you are registered for a postal or proxy vote the information is shown on your poll card. Poll cards are due to be sent out on 27 September 2019. If you have not received your poll card you can contact the Elections Team via email at firstname.lastname@example.org telephone 01305 838299 and they can confirm whether you have a voting method in place.
|I have moved address, do I need to re-register? I have already informed council tax.
||If you have filled in and returned an individual electoral registration form since you moved to your new home, you do not need to register again. If you have not, you need register to vote again. If you want to register to vote in England or Wales, you may register online anytime at www.gov.uk/register-to-voteor call the Elections Team on 01305 838299. The deadline to register to vote for the Bourton Parish Council election on 17 October 2019 is midnight on Tuesday 1 October 2019.
Registering for council tax does not automatically register you at your new property address. You will need to register to vote using the link above.
|I have received a poll card or a postal pack for someone who does not live at this address.
||If you have received a poll card or a postal vote for someone who does not live at your address please contact the Elections Team via email at email@example.com telephone on 01305 838299 detailing the names and address of the electors who are no longer resident.
|The Council have not sent me any information on the prospective candidates running for Election.

|Can I vote if I have not received my poll card?
Poll cards are due to be sent out on 27 September 2019. If you are on the Electoral Register but did not receive or have lost your poll card, you may still vote in person at your local polling station. You may find out where your polling station is and view a map showing the route from where you live to your polling station at www.wheredoivote.co.uk
If you are registered to vote by post then you cannot vote at a polling station and you must vote using the postal ballot papers that will be sent to the address specified on your application form. Electors who vote by post should receive a postal poll card. If you are not on the Electoral Register, you will need to register before you may vote. You may do this online anytime at www.gov.uk/register-to-voteor call the Elections Team on 01305 838299. The cut-off date is Tuesday 1 October 2019 (midnight). Your details must be entered onto the Electoral Register before the cut-off date in order to vote in this election. If your details are not entered onto the register before the cut-off date then you will be unable to vote in this election.

|Can I cancel my postal vote or make changes to existing postal / proxy arrangements?
Requests to cancel postal votes, amend existing postal and proxy applications must be received by us, in writing, no later than 5pm on Wednesday 2 October 2019. Requests may be sent to Electoral Services, South Walks House, South Walks Road, Dorchester, Dorset, DT1 1UZ or alternatively you may email the Elections Team at email@example.com. Any requests received after 5pm on Wednesday 2 October 2019 will not be effective and the only way you will be able to cast your vote is by using your postal vote. You may, however, hand your postal pack in to your polling station.
|Do I need to bring ID to the polling station?
||No, not in Great Britain. Voters are asked to give their name and address and these are checked against the electoral register.
|Can I vote online?
||No – legislation only allows electors to vote either at a polling station, by post or by appointing a proxy to vote on your behalf.
|I have made a mistake on my postal pack. Can I have another one?
||For ‘spoilt’ postal vote packs (where you have made a mistake that cannot be rectified) then all documents need to be returned in person to the Council Offices at South Walks House in Dorchester so that replacements can be issued.
|I have not received my postal ballot paper.
Postal voting packs are due to be sent out from our external printers on Friday 4 October 2019. |I'm registered as a proxy for someone else, what do I need to do?
||As a proxy voter, you should go to the polling station of the person you are registered to vote on behalf of. It will be very helpful if you bring with you the confirmation letter you received, although this is not essential.
|What do I do when I go to the Polling Station?
When you go to the polling station, tell the clerk your name and address. Staff will confirm your details on the register and give you a ballot paper for each election that you are eligible to vote for at the polling station. When you are given your ballot paper(s), go to one of the polling booths. Mark a cross (X) in the box on the right hand side of the ballot paper(s) opposite the name(s) of the party or individual candidate(s) you are voting for. The ballot paper(s) tells you how many candidates you may vote for. Do not vote for more than that number. Do not put any other mark on the ballot paper(s), or your vote(s) may not be counted. If you spoil your ballot paper(s) by mistake, show the Presiding Officer and ask for a replacement. You may only get a replacement vote if you have not put your ballot paper in the ballot box. Fold the ballot paper(s) in half. Show the Presiding Officer the number and other unique identifying mark on the ballot paper(s), but do not let anyone see your vote. Put the ballot paper(s) in the ballot box and leave the polling station.
|What time do the polling stations open?
You may cast your vote between 7am and 10pm on Polling Day.
|I have appointed a proxy and will now be around on polling day.
||As long as your proxy has not already voted, then you may go along to the polling station to cast your vote. You will need to contact your proxy to ensure they have not already cast your vote.
|I have been called away on business / have an emergency medical need and will be unable to attend the polling station.
