I love the ethos of Mountjoy. Our son has flourished whilst being a pupil there.

Facilities and environment

Mountjoy is a new, purpose-built school. We enjoy light and air in the classrooms.
There's a:

  • hydrotherapy pool
  • sensory garden
  • play equipment
  • sensory room
  • rebound equipment
  • soft play room
Mountjoy is co-located with Beaminster School which gives opportunities for mainstream inclusion.

Jack transitioned to Mountjoy from mainstream school, where overwhelming sensory needs related to his autism restricted his ability to access his learning. He was frequently in a distressed state going to school and he was starting to refuse to go.
Since joining Mountjoy, Jack has been able to access a full curriculum in his class peer group, including offsite activities such as surfing and residential stays."

Wellbeing and therapies

We offer bespoke and detailed therapy programmes designed in consultation with specialist therapists, for example:

  • speech and language therapy
  • physiotherapy
  • occupational therapy
  • swing therapy
  • hydrotherapy
  • PSHE
  • emotional support
  • Draw to Talk
  • music therapy
  • sensory diets

  • PAT dog
  • riding for the disabled
  • rebound therapy
  • paddleboarding and surf therapy
  • pet therapy
  • Lego therapy
  • massage
  • therapeutic brushing and joint compressions
  • 'rumble' mechanical therapy horse
  • weekly learning visits to local farms and environmental centres

  • into adulthood
  • life skills
  • developing independence
  • sixth form choices
  • Local Offer after 16 years and after 19 years
