Age range

4 to 11 years (Reception to Year 6).

Capacity

Sky Base can accommodate up to 14 pupils and is staffed by 8 Teaching Assistants and 1 Specialist Teacher.

Core offer

The core offer includes:

  • Sky Base has two dedicated classrooms, one for Reception and Key Stage One pupils and another for Key Stage Two pupils
  • bespoke package for each pupil, including an individualised curriculum and a flexible approach to time in mainstream lessons and activities
  • equipment and interventions for sensory needs, with a focus on developing self-regulation skills. This includes a sensory room and a ‘calm down’ space.
  • Sky Base has its own outdoor play area

Links with mainstream

Pupils in Key Stage one spend time in the Reception classroom each week to enable them to develop their play skills. Integration into mainstream lessons depends on each pupil’s ability to ‘thrive’ and whether it is of benefit to them. Pupils tend to be supported on a 1:1 basis when in mainstream. Some pupils will attend assemblies with the main school.

Access to outside professionals

All pupils have individualised Speech and Language Therapy and Occupational Therapy programmes.

Transitions and supporting independence

New starters are provided with a transitions booklet and staff meet them in their current setting.

When pupils move on from Sky Base, they are supported to visit future provisions and staff ensure that important information is passed on.
