Ansbury offer to children in care and care leavers

What we offer

At Ansbury, we work with Dorset Council to support children in care and care leavers through their training and education needs to adulthood.

We offer impartial, one-to-one, face to face or telephone information, advice and future options from professionally qualified staff to support you as a child in care or care leaver.

We also offer:

  • support to overcome barriers
  • mentoring support
  • action planning
  • group workshops on a range of topics to support a return to learning an work (at Care and Support Team events)
  • a regular opportunity bulletin that we send out to anyone who's not in education, employment or training (NEETs)
  • help with identifying sources of information to underpin further online research and self help
  • support from our voluntary sector partners through drop-in sessions

We will help you with job seeking skills;

  • completing application forms
  • writing CVs
  • identifying skills
  • online applications
  • interview skills

We also support you by referring you to:

  • learning providers
  • statutory services
  • benefits
  • health
  • National Careers Service
  • Face Forward who offer support for people who are furthest from employment

We send a letter to all young people about to enter further education at the end of year 11 to remind them that we're available to support them in college and how to contact us.

Who is eligible

People eligible for this support are:

  • young people aged between 13 and 18 who are looked after by Dorset Council
  • Dorset care leavers aged 18 to 21
  • Dorset care leavers aged 21 to 25 who have been identified by the Care and Support Team as needing continued support to find work or learning in the local area

How we know who needs career advice

We find out who needs our support by:

  • referrals from social workers, schools and through our looked after children meetings with the Virtual School
  • self referral
  • information from schools
  • data from Dorset Council

Where we meet you

We will meet you:

  • at your school or education provider
  • community venues across Dorset to suit your need, including voluntary sector partner premises
  • at your home if you need this
