Tattoo, piercing and electrolysis registration

If you offer tattooing, semi-permanent skin colouring, cosmetic piercing, electrolysis or acupuncture you must be registered with us. If you work from premises, they must also be registered.

The purpose of registration is to ensure that basic health and safety and infection control standards are maintained in any premises where these activities are carried out.

Summary of regulations

The regulations applicable to this registration are the Local Government (Misc Provisions) Act 1982 and relevant local by-laws.

Registration fees

  • ear piercing - £73
  • electrolysis - £78.25
  • tattooing - £103.50
  • cosmetic piercing - £103.50
  • acupuncture - £83.25
  • transfer/amendment of Personal Operator Registration - £25

  • ear piercing - £98.50
  • electrolysis - £99.50
  • tattooing - £130
  • cosmetic piercing - £130
  • acupuncture - £108.50
